Mosul’s citizens call to end increasing violence

Mosul, Nineveh (NINA)- Black signboards, indicating the murder of civilians, officers, policemen and political parties' members have remarkably spread throughout Mosul streets, as violence which followed the recent provincial elections, is growing wider every day.

A source in Mosul police department's operations section stated to the National Iraqi News Agency “Police forces discovered 28 bodies of policemen and civilians in a cemetery in the city during a military operation conducted last week, in addition to the increasing armed robberies that targeted shops' owners and tradesmen in Mosul.”

Hamad Sabir, father of an assassinated victim, mentioned that Mosul police "do not provide any security for us in the streets and neighborhoods.” The presence of policemen, he added, "is restricted to police stations to protect them rather than to protect civilians, a matter that encouraged gunmen to kill any person they want in front his house or even at his work place."

Abdullah Hachim, a local council administrator of a Mosul neighbourhood, demanded to protect all civilians at their homes or at work places.

Lawyer Rizkar Atroushi stressed that “This city neither witnessed any stability in the past nor currently, especially after the elections when the situation deteriorated even more, due lack of security control and the constant conflicts among members of the winning slates in the recent elections." /End/
