10 figures compete on PM post
27/03/2010 19:44:00

Baghdad (NINA) –The results of the elections announced by the Independent High Electoral Commission last Saturday showed that more than two blocs need to ally for forming the next cabinet. The nomination for the Prime Minister post has been limited by three blocs represented by the Iraqiya Slate which won the highest number of seats as well as the State of Law’s Coalition and the Iraqi National Alliance.

According to informed sources, there are ten politicians will be nominated for the PM post by the three blocs.

These figures are Ayad Allawi who heads the Slate which won the largest number of seats in next parliament.

The second candidate is Usama al-Nijeifi of the IS, who won more than 250,000 votes in Nineveh province, but his nomination faces rejection from the Kurdistani Alliance’s side.

The Deputy Premier Rafi’ al-Esawi who won more than 80,000 votes for IS in Anbar province is the third figure to be nominated for the PM post.

The head of the SLC and the PM Nouri al-Maliki who achieved the highest votes all over Iraq with more than 500,000 votes is the only candidate of the SLC for this post, but his nomination for a second term might face rejection from some parts.

The second man in Dawa Party Ali al-Adeeb is among the candidates for this post.

Among the candidates of the Dawa Party is Jafar al-Sadr, son of the late Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir al-Sadr founder of Dawa party, who won the second highest votes within the SLC in Baghdad province.

As for the Iraqi National Alliance’s candidates, the Vice-President Adil Abdul Mahdi is among the most distinguished figures of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council and the figure that enjoys good relations with most political blocs.

Another candidate of the INA is the Finance Minister Baqir Jabur al-Zubaidi who might compete with Abdul Mahdi for the PM post within the INA.

Also within the INA, the candidate of the Sadr Trend Qusay Abdul Wahab is considered as the first figure nominated by the Sadr Trend for the PM post.

The last candidate from the INA is the head of the National Reform Trend Ibrahim al-Jaafary who was so close of being the former Premier but objections of the KA resulted in nominating Maliki for this post. Observers believe that these ten figures might be the most possible candidates for the PM post.

Current political discussions refer that the main competition on the Premier post is limited by the Iraqiya Slate and the State of Law’s Coalition. /End/
