Baghdad (NINA) – The Iraqi Journalists Union (IJU) condemned the assassination of journalist and human right activist, Hadi al-Mahdi, considering his assassination as being part of the muzzle policies carried by some to pass their agendas on the Iraqis.
In a statement issued on Friday, Sep. 9, the IJU demanded security agencies to increase their efforts to uncover those involved in the crime and bring the criminal before justice.
The IJU asserted that threatening, assaulting and killing journalists prove the necessity to activate Journalists Rights Law, which has been recently enacted by Parliament and ratified by the President.
In its statement, the IJU affirmed that though journalist have given throughout the last eight year 360 martyrs they will continue serving the people and defending the principles of democracy, which is not among the principles of by those who resort to arms and violence.
Journalist Hadi al-Mehdi was assassinated on Thursday evening, Sep. 8, and his body found inside his house in Karadeh area with bullet holes in his head. / End.
