Baghdad (NINA)- Daily press on Monday mainly focused security developments in Sadr City and Mosul, launching national campaigns on developing education and building residential compounds as well as the recent Talabani –Barzani meeting in Erbil.

Security development
Over the situation in Sadr City, Azzaman said the recently reached ceasefire agreement has not deterred US air force from directing frequent strikes to targets in Sadr City until Sunday morning, despite the Multi-National Force's announcement of welcoming the political solution. The paper said three major neighbourhoods of Sadr City – Jameela, Gayara and Dakhil- was targeted by constant strikes by US helicopters since 3:30 p.m. Saturday, despite announcing a ceasefire agreement earlier on the day.

Al-Mada covered the military operation in Nineveh province –dubbed as Lion Roar-, citing that the operation was featured by secrecy and scarce statements over its developments. However, witnesses reported that police vehicles were seen Sunday morning carrying detainees and coming from the neighbourhoods of Tahreer, Zahra and Qahira, while combined Iraqi-US forces were conducting raid-search campaigns in neighbourhoods known to be flashpoints and strongholds for gunmen. On Sunday also, police forces banned the entry to Dawasa Street in central Mosul, after receiving information, indicating the presence of a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt in the area.

Al-Mada quoted security sources as saying that Awakening councils' forces –anti Qaeda fighters- from Anbar province will participate in Nineveh operations under the military command of the operation.

National campaigns
Al-Sabah said Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is expected to announce Monday launching "two national campaigns" to implement $ 5 million worth strategic projects to develop education in the country and construct residential compounds in Sadr City of Baghdad.

Talabani-Barzani meeting
President Jalal Talabani and Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani held a meeting last Sunday in Erbil city, the regional capital of Kurdistan, followed by a joint press conference.

Al-Ittihad said President Talabani stated in the conference that Iraq's general situations and relation between the central government and the regional one were discussed, as well as relations between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan –led by Talabani- and Kurdistan Democratic Party –led by Barzani-. The meeting also stressed the need to address the outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil, according to the paper. /End/
